Somaliland: Four Arrested for Purchasing Voter Cards ahead of Elections

HARGEISA, (HargeisaPress) — Somaliland police arrested four people over voter bribery allegations. Police said the suspects were arrested while buying ID cards from the voters.

Police launched an investigation which is still underway. Somaliland’s political national parties mainly Wadani and Kulmiye traded accusations of buying voters cards and IDs from residents.

The two political parties accused each other of giving money to voters across the country in exchange for their national IDs and Voters cards so that they will not participate in the presidential polls. Police authorities have confirmed the three women and one man are in police custody.

Reports indicate that there people undercover who allegedly posing as an agent for Wadani opposition party looking to purchase voter registration cards from voters and then burning them all Wadani which is one of SL’s political parties and is campaigning to oust power from the ruling Kulmiye party reportedly luring his voters to sell their voting cards.

The four suspects have been caught red handed and will face the justice according to police. There are reports that voters are selling their voter cards due to rampant poverty where opposition Wadani party is taking advantage. According to police, the suspects said that they were to exchange voter cards with food.
