Dear President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi,
My name is Guleid Ahmed Jama. I am human rights defender based in the Republic of Somaliland. I am writing in solidarity with Mahmoud Hussein, 20 years old, who has been in jail for exercising his fundamental freedom of expression.
Freedom of expression is universal right. No one be shall be subjugated or persecuted for expressing his/her opinion. The case of Mahmoud is for all human beings in the world irrespective of nationality. I call on for his immediate release.
Torture is unacceptable and inhumane treatment. Egyptian authorities shall not torture or maltreat Mahmoud.
As a human rights defender and follow human being, I am shocked by the allegations of torture. I urge you to order an independent investigation into Mahmoud’s allegations of torture.
Your excellency, I am calling on you to release Mahmoud Hussein immediately and unconditionally, with all charges against him dropped as he is a prisoner of conscience, detained solely for exercising his right to freedom of expression and assembly.
