The show which has attracted thousands of Somalis is seen as a major inspiration for the aspiring young musicians whose music talents never go beyond social media and Youtube.

Despite security challenges, Somalia’s capital is recovering from decades of conflict as the city experienced booming construction projects, thanks to the relative peace in the city since the ouster of Islamist militants in 2011.

The musicians who showcased their talent have sung in Somali, surprising many young men and women at the show who have never attended any other live music event.

Somalia’s cultural heritage has suffered a virtual distinction following the uprising of Islamists in 2006. Music shops and cinemas have been attacked, and musicians were killed, forcing many to flee the country.

“We are happy – this Eid has passed well.” said Mohamed Ali, a 19 years-old at the show.
