SOMALILAND: Civil Society Organizations Meet with Opposition Justice & Welfare Party (UCID)

HARGEISA , (HargeisaPress) —On June 23rd 2016: Somaliland Civil Society Organizations engaging democratization and elections process met with the Justice and Welfare Party (UCID) in Somaliland. Meeting was held at the head Office of UCID party, at mid-day on Thursday, the chairman of UCID HE Eng. Faysal Cali Waraabe was present in the meeting.

 

This meeting was following a previous meeting held on 20 June 2016, between the CSOs and HE Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud (Silanyo) the President of the Republic of Somaliland. The objective of the meeting was initiated by CSOs so as to share policy recommendations and suggestions on the upcoming elections and voter registration process currently ongoing in the country.

At first, the CSOs shared with the chairman of UCID a written document summarizing collection of suggestions and recommendations aiming to remind all stakeholders to work together in a participatory manner to commit collective efforts to speed up the process that will enable us to hold a free and fair elections on the dates planned and the CSOs encouraged the chairman of UCID to take greater role on the realization of the process towards the implementation of upcoming elections goals and that elections to take place on time.

 

Finally, members of the CSOs present in the meeting had opportunity to ask questions the chairman of UCID. Questions asked were the situation of elections preparations, parliamentary elections, women and minority quota and the position of UCID Party. The Chairman has frequently answered one by one all these questions respectively.

 

This meeting was concluded satisfactorily and parties agreed to work together the development of democratization process and elections.
